We started school on Monday, August 18, 2008. On that same day Tropical Storm Fay hit the southern gulf coast of Florida. By Tuesday it was in near the Orlando area, so they closed schools. Fay was suppose to be out of the area by Tuesday night early Wednesday Morning. However Fay stalled. She continued to drop rain and wind all over the Orlando and the surrounding areas. We went to school on Wednesday, and Thursday. On Thursday morning Fay was to be off the coast of Daytona beach, but she did not move in the direction or speed that the officials thought. So we continued to get wind and rain form Fay. On Friday the school board decided to close school due to flooded streets, debris and some power outages.
The students and teachers, only spent three days together. I can not wait till we are able to have a full week with all students. This year my students are great. I have a very sweet class, and they all want to learn. Have have two boys who are able to read on a sixth grade level with no problems. They are doing sixth grade homework. They are very excited.
