Baby Size!

This week the baby is about the size of a mango. Next week we will find out what we are having. Today, we are going to the Dr. to hear the heartbeat and the check my weight, and get the results of my first blood work!

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature

Baby!

I found this website that shows what fruit the baby looks like at this stage. Compared to weight and length.
This week the baby is the size of a Sweet Potato. I have felt a lot of movement in the mornings and in the
evenings, when I am still and relaxed.

Your Baby: Week 18

Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby's finally big enough that you'll be able to feel those movements soon.

Exciting News!

Yesterday I was sitting at my computer while my students were at the math checking e-mail. When all of a sudden I felt a little wave in my belly. I was so excited that I called Jason right away. He was excited! Now he keeps asking I want to feel, which he will not be able to for a few more weeks. Today I did feel the little one a few times. It is so neat.
